Kathleen is one special lady. For 15 years, she’s worked at Easterseals UCP with the help of a Supported Employment specialist.
Kathleen, who is 42 years old and is living with Mild Intellectual Disability and anxiety disorders, has come a long way in her career. She began working with the assistance of a one-on-one support coordinator at one of the Easterseals UCP Child Development Centers in North Carolina. There she helped serve meals to children.
For the past few years, Kathleen continues to work as a facilities assistant at the Commonwealth Group Home in Charlotte. She performs light cleaning tasks including vacuuming. cleaning blinds, sweeping and more. With the help of a support staff, Kathleen stays on task.
Recently, Kathleen started to learn to ride the Special Transportation Services bus to and from work. With the support, she has improved her time management and focus. She is an inspiration for independent living for people with special needs and mental health diagnosis.
“Kathleen is a valued member of our team and we have truly enjoyed supporting her in her jobs with Easterseals UCP. She is pleasant and enjoys working with others,” said Anne Howell, Kathleen’s Supported Employment Supervisor at Easterseals UCP.
