Ahoskie, Elizabeth City, New Bern, and Wilmington, North Carolina, June 24, 2018
It takes energy, creativity and passion to be part of the EMPOWER team at Easterseals UCP. EMPOWER: Engaging and Motivating People through Opportunities in Wellness, Education and Recreation is a program geared towards children and teens with intellectual and developmental disabilities at four sites in North Carolina.
EMPOWER provides After School programs during the school year and a day camp throughout the summer. Trillium Health Resources makes these opportunities to learn, enjoy adventures and make friends free to families thanks to their partnership with Easterseals UCP.
Our Staff Spotlight highlights several employees who have helped enrich the lives of participants in the program.
Julia Robinson of the Ahoskie site is a paraprofessional who exudes energy and positivity for children, according to Sarah-Grace Britton, EMPOWER Director at Ahoskie.
Heather Kiaunis of the Elizabeth City site uses her creativity to connect with campers, families and staff through art and history. She’s an avid animal lover and naturalist who makes field trips fun, says Jennifer Scialdone, EMPOWER Director at Elizabeth City.
Shea Barnes at the EMPOWER site in New Bern has a smile that lights up the room. She does an outstanding job planning quality and enriching activities for the children year-round in the center and out in the community, according to April Crump, EMPOWER Director at New Bern.
Elisha Dixson at the Wilmington EMPOWER site loves music and children. As she is a member of the professional Gospel group called “Rachel & Joy”, she shares her musical talents with boys and girls at EMPOWER, says Lorie Winn, EMPOWER Director in Wilmington.
